Arrested for DUI by the Will County Sheriff's Office?
A DUI arrest by the Will County Sheriff's Office is prosecuted in Will County, at the Will County Courthouse, 100 W Jefferson St in Joliet. Your license is on a second track. The suspension that follows a DUI arrest starts on the 46th day after you are given notice. Jeff McCarthy handles DUI cases at that courthouse and can look at both tracks with you.
Your deadlines
- Day 46. Your statutory summary suspension starts, counted from the day you got the notice.
- Day 90. The last day to file a petition to rescind that suspension.
Where the Sheriff's deputies patrol
The Sheriff's Office has jurisdiction throughout Will County, which its own site puts at about 849 square miles. Its patrol page says deputies work 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and that the office serves more than 100,000 people who live in unincorporated areas. It lists over 190 sworn personnel in the patrol division.
One more fact matters here. The Village of Homer Glen has contracted with the Sheriff for police service since 2000, so a DUI stop in Homer Glen is made by a Sheriff's deputy. Our Homer Glen page covers that.
The Sheriff's headquarters is at 16911 W Laraway Rd, Suite 101, Joliet, IL 60433. The Homer Glen page on the Sheriff's site gives 815-727-8575 as the number for non-emergency police dispatch.
The jail and the courthouse are different buildings
People mix these up. The Will County Adult Detention Facility is at 95 South Chicago Street in Joliet, phone 815-740-1250. The courtroom where your DUI case is heard is a different building, the Will County Courthouse at 100 W Jefferson St. Check the Will County courthouse guide before your first date so you go to the right door.
The Sheriff posts an online inmate search, so a family member can check whether you are still in the facility.
Bond after a Sheriff's arrest
The Sheriff's bail page says bail payments are not accepted online. It tells people to contact the detention facility or come to the booking area. It also warns that the Sheriff's Office will not call anyone to ask for a bail payment, and that it does not take Venmo, Cash App or Zelle. Treat any caller who asks for money that way as a scam.
Keep in mind that Illinois law changed on this point. 725 ILCS 5/110-1.5 abolishes monetary bail, and the Illinois Courts' own news page reports that the change took effect on September 18, 2023. Under 725 ILCS 5/110-2, every person charged is eligible for pretrial release before conviction, and the law presumes release on personal recognizance with conditions the court sets. Ask the jail what applies to you before anyone pays anything.

Getting your car back
The Sheriff's website posts no tow, impound or vehicle release page, and no fee schedule. Here is what you can do:
- Find the name of the tow company on the paperwork you were given, or ask the Sheriff's dispatch line which company took the car.
- Call that company and ask what it needs from you and what it charges. Tow and storage companies set their own rates.
- Ask the Sheriff's Office whether any hold or administrative fee applies in addition to the tow company's bill.
Storage fees grow every day the car sits, so make the call early.
The license clock
Under 625 ILCS 5/11-501.1(g), a statutory summary suspension takes effect on the 46th day after notice was given. That date is a license problem, separate from the criminal charge. The DUI deadline calculator turns your arrest date into the dates that matter, and the page on the petition to rescind explains the way to challenge the suspension.
