One address for the village and the police

Romeoville's police department shares an address with the village: 1050 W Romeo Road, Romeoville, IL 60446. The village directory lists the police office hours as Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the main number 815-886-7219 and a fax at 815-886-2763. The department also has an anonymous tip line, 815-886-8080.

For anything about an arrest, use the police number.

If you need the car

The village website does not post an impound or vehicle release page, a tow company list or an administrative tow fee. A phone call to 815-886-7219 will tell you which company has the car. Then ask that company for its hours, what it needs from you, and its daily storage charge.

Getting out and getting a date

Romeoville's site does not explain its release process. Illinois no longer uses cash bail; the Will County Sheriff page explains the statutes. Ask for your first court date in writing, and keep every sheet you are handed.

The courthouse

Romeoville is in Will County. Your date will be at the Will County Courthouse in Joliet. The courthouse guide covers security, parking and what to bring.

The license date

The statutory summary suspension takes effect on the 46th day after the notice (625 ILCS 5/11-501.1(g)). Read the suspension page and run your arrest date through the deadline calculator this week.

Two ways to be charged

625 ILCS 5/11-501(a) names two routes. One is driving with an alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more. The other is driving while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating compounds to a degree that makes you incapable of driving safely. Your paperwork says which one the officer used, and a case built on a number is a different case from one built on observations.

What to keep and what to write

  • Every page the officer or the jail gave you.
  • The notice of suspension, if there is one. The 46th day is counted from its date.
  • The tow slip or the tow company's phone number.
  • A short note, written soon, of where you were stopped and what was said.

Do not post about the arrest online or text anyone about it. Bring the notes to your call with Jeff.
