Arrested for DUI by the Plainfield Police Department?
Plainfield publishes its impound costs: a $500.00 impound fee, a tow of $175.00 for most vehicles, and $30.00 a day storage from the third business day. The page says that applies to cars impounded for certain traffic violations, so confirm it covers a DUI tow. Most of Plainfield is in Will County, and DUI cases go to Joliet. The license suspension begins on the 46th day after notice, in either county.
Your deadlines
- Day 46. Your statutory summary suspension starts, counted from the day you got the notice.
- Day 90. The last day to file a petition to rescind that suspension.
What the village says about impounded cars
| Item | What the village site posts |
|---|---|
| Impound fee | $500.00 |
| Tow | $175.00 for most vehicles; more for oversized vehicles or vehicles that needed a winch |
| Storage | $30.00 per day, starting the third business day after the impound |
| Pickup | Plainfield Police Department, Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. |
| Who gets the car | The registered owner only, no matter who was driving |
The person driving the car away needs a valid driver's license and proof of insurance for the vehicle. The village lists the payment types it accepts, so confirm them before you go. Questions go to the Legal Department at 815-439-2494.
Read the wording closely. The village describes this fee for vehicles impounded for certain traffic violations. It does not say in that answer whether a DUI arrest is one of them. Ask the Legal Department, and ask before you pay.
The registered owner rule
If the car is in a parent's or spouse's name, that person has to come. The registered owner is the only one the village will release the car to, even if someone else was driving. Plan for the owner to take time off, and for storage to build up while you sort that out. The third business day is when the daily storage starts.
Where the station is
The village lists the police department at 14300 Coil Plus Drive, Plainfield, IL 60544. Its FAQ describes the building as off 143rd Street, just east of Route 30, on the south side of the street, with Records open 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and closed weekends and village holidays. The FAQ also gives a dispatch number, (815) 436-2341.

Will County or Kendall County
Plainfield is in both counties. The village's police page calls it a growing community in both Will and Kendall Counties. The village's own FAQ points traffic citations to the Will County Circuit Clerk in Joliet or to the Kendall County Circuit Clerk at 807 W. John Street in Yorkville, depending on the county. A DUI is heard in the county where the arrest happened, so check the county on your paperwork. Will County cases go to the Will County Courthouse, 100 W Jefferson St.
Bond and the license date
The village site does not describe a bond process. Illinois no longer uses cash bail; the Will County Sheriff page explains the statutes. Separately, 625 ILCS 5/11-501.1(g) starts the suspension on the 46th day after notice. Use the deadline calculator for the exact date.
