Arrested for DUI by the Lemont Police Department?

The first question after a Lemont police DUI arrest is which county the arrest happened in. Lemont touches Cook, Will and DuPage counties, and a DUI is heard in the county of the arrest. A Cook County arrest goes to Bridgeview, a Will County arrest to Joliet. The license suspension begins on day 46, whichever county it is.

The Lemont station and its phone numbers

The village lists the Lemont Police Department at 14600 127th St., Lemont, IL 60439. The department page gives these numbers: 630-257-2226 for non-emergency dispatch, 630-257-2229 for the business office, and 630-257-6426 for the drug and related offenses tip line. The station is staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Business office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. The page asks people to call ahead to be sure a service is being offered.

The same page links the Illinois State Police, the Cook County Sheriff and the DuPage County Sheriff.

The tow rotation

Lemont posts a towing policy. Its 2023 Towing Policy says the police department lets officers arrange the immediate removal of a private vehicle from the roadway by notifying an approved towing firm. The department keeps a list of approved firms for that purpose, compiled impartially. So the company that took your car may be on that list, and the department can tell you which one.

The policy does not post release steps, hours or fees for the car. Call the business office, 630-257-2229, to ask which firm has it, and then call the firm. Property and evidence held by the department is released by appointment only, according to the department's Evidence page.

Bond, county by county

Illinois no longer uses cash bail in any of the three counties; the Will County Sheriff page explains the statutes. How a given county handles the first appearance is a local question. Jeff handles cases at the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview and the Will County Courthouse in Joliet. For a DuPage County case, call first.

The license date

The license suspension does not depend on the county. 625 ILCS 5/11-501.1(g) starts it on the 46th day after notice. Use the deadline calculator and read the petition to rescind page.

What to bring to the first call

  • The citation, showing the county and the location of the stop.
  • The notice of suspension and the date printed on it.
  • The tow company's name, if you have it.
  • The department's property receipt, if the station kept your phone or wallet.

With the county and the date, Jeff can tell you which courthouse and which clock apply before anything else.
