Arrested for DUI by the Frankfort Police Department?

Frankfort has a local court that meets once a month, but a DUI arrest is a state charge heard in the Will County Circuit Court, at 100 W Jefferson St in Joliet. The Frankfort Police Department is at 20602 Lincoln-Way Lane and its number is 815.469.9435. The license suspension kicks in on day 46 after notice.

Local court and state court are different rooms

The village's Courts page splits things in two. Local Court meets at the Frankfort Township Old Hall, 11008 W. Lincoln Highway, and generally sits on the second Thursday of each month, or the day after if that Thursday is a legal holiday. That is where village matters are heard.

The same page sends questions about a traffic citation or criminal complaint to the Will County Circuit Clerk, with the State Court location listed as 100 W. Jefferson St, Joliet, phone (815) 727-8592. A DUI charge arises under the state Vehicle Code, so plan on Joliet. Do not show up at the Old Hall for a DUI date.

The department's address and hours

The police page lists the department at 20602 Lincoln-Way Lane, Frankfort, IL 60423, phone 815.469.9435. Administrative office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, closed weekends. The page also offers an email address for the department and a police blotter. The village's other address, at 432 W Nebraska Street, is the village hall, not the police station.

Traffic court, supervision and the Will County Clerk

The Courts page says traffic fines must be paid through the Will County Circuit Clerk, and gives a Will County Bar Association number, 815.553.0910, for questions about mail-in traffic court supervision. It asks you to allow 7 business days for court documents to be processed before you call. That is a rule from the village's page about traffic tickets. For a DUI, ask Jeff before you try to plead or pay anything.

Your car and bond

Frankfort's police pages post no towing, impound or release process, and no fee. Ask the department, then the tow company. On bond, Illinois no longer uses cash bail; see the Will County Sheriff page.

The license date

Whatever court you are in, 625 ILCS 5/11-501.1(g) starts the statutory summary suspension on the 46th day after notice was given. A traffic court rule does not move it. See the suspension page and the courthouse guide.

Who prosecutes, and where to reach them

The same Courts page lists the Will County State's Attorney's Office at 121 N. Chicago Street, Joliet, phone 815.727.8453. In Illinois the State's Attorney prosecutes criminal cases for the county, so a Frankfort DUI is a case brought by that office, in the county courthouse. The page lists the courthouse Order of Protection office as well, which has nothing to do with a DUI.

Contact with the prosecutor's office about your own charge should go through your lawyer.

Questions people ask about frankfort police

Short answers first. Jeff McCarthy reviews every answer on this page.

No. The village's page sends criminal complaints and traffic citations questions to the Will County Circuit Clerk and lists State Court at 100 W. Jefferson St in Joliet.

Generally the second Thursday of each month, at the Frankfort Township Old Hall, 11008 W. Lincoln Highway.

20602 Lincoln-Way Lane. The village hall is a separate address on Nebraska Street.

The village page describes Local Court for village matters and State Court, in Joliet, for criminal complaints and traffic citations. A DUI is a state charge, so the answer is no.

Do not assume you can. The village page describes mail-in supervision for traffic court matters. A DUI carries license consequences that a traffic ticket does not, so speak to Jeff first.
